What to know about working with a designer and contractor
We have a process :)
While every designer’s process may be a little different a simple format is followed:
learn the client
present ideas to define a client vision
get feedback & clarification
implement design into tangible deliverables
document tangible deliverables via plans for execution
issue for execution.
You may get vision boards, product samples, renderings and plans depending on the services you have elected.
Be sure you understand what you are receiving and what you are requesting.
It takes time.
Design Services are a luxury. They can’t be rushed.
It takes time to create a plan that functions beautifully within the constraints of a space. It takes time to find the finish or piece that will be just right—and and make the entire design sing. And it takes time to gather estimates, schedule contractors, and execute work with attention to detail.
Good things come to those who allow for time.
We speak our own language.
Designers and Contractors speak plans and specs. You’ll need to understand the basics of this language to ensure you communicate clearly with your team.
Changing the plan or specs throughout the process causes confusion and delays timelines. It can also cause misinformation in the field, resulting in additional time and labor for designer and contractor—adding cost to the budget.
Weekly or biweekly meetings for your team and yourself is an important part of staying on track and keeping all parties in the know. More info is better. Withholding information is not helpful to anyone.
We’re here as partner and guide
Let your team be your partners and guide to delivering your space.
Both design and construction can be stressful, especially if this is your first time undertaking a project. However, your designer and contractor have done this many times and bring experience and expertise you can rely on. Trusting your team makes the process fun and exciting.
Don’t hesitate to ask questions. They are there to guide and support you throughout the project.
And they’re as excited to bring your space to life as you are to live in it.
